On September 11‑13, the Netaji Subhas Regional Coaching Centre in Agartala hosted the 8th North East Pencak Silat Championship, organized by the North East Pencak Silat Federation under the Indian Pencak Silat Federation. Nagaland emerged as the overall champion, reaffirming its dominance in the sport.
The three‑day competition drew 460 athletes from all eight North‑Eastern states. Events were held in Pre‑Teen, Sub‑Junior, Junior and Senior divisions for both boys and girls.
Nagaland topped the medal table with 47 gold, 26 silver and seven bronze medals, securing the trophy by a wide margin. Assam finished as first runner‑up, followed by Manipur and Tripura.
The championship was attended by prominent figures including Minister of Tribal Welfare Bikash Debbarma, Tripura Olympic Association chairman Ratan Saha, Olympian and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Dipa Karmakar, and Dronacharya Award‑winning coach Bishweshwar Nandi. Individual honors were awarded to Huiningsumbam Lamnganba (Best Male Player), Prerana Hazarika (Best Female Player), Kitenlo K. Thono (Best Official Male), and Gungun Yadav (Best Official Female). The closing ceremony featured Inspector General Ippar Manchak Dnyanoba and cultural ambassador Panchali Debbarma. Nagaland officials credited intensive training and institutional support for the victory, solidifying the state’s reputation as a Pencak Silat powerhouse.
