On 14 September, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Tongpang L. Jamir met separately with Nungsangmenla Imchen, secretary of the Nagaland Public Service Commission, and Lanusenla Longkumer, secretary of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board. The meetings focused on implementing the 4% reservation for persons with disabilities in government employment and the reservation roster system.
The discussions followed complaints from PwD aspirants about how reservation is applied and how vacancies appear in recruitment rosters. SCPD stressed the need for a clear, consistent and transparent mechanism to identify reserved vacancies and maintain rosters so that eligible candidates receive the benefits mandated by law.
NPSC and NSSB explained that reservation rosters are provided by their respective departments for recruitment purposes and emphasized that such rosters must be clear and accurately reflect reserved vacancies. The parties also discussed verification of disability certificates, noting that while verification is necessary, the process should remain fair, transparent and uniform without creating unnecessary barriers for genuine candidates.
SCPD called for continued coordination among state government departments, NPSC, NSSB and the Commission to ensure effective implementation of PwD reservation and timely resolution of grievances. Candidates facing difficulties with reservation, roster implementation or recruitment may submit grievances to the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, preferably in writing with supporting documents. The meeting ended with an agreement to strengthen a transparent, systematic and disability‑inclusive reservation and roster mechanism, thereby ensuring equal employment opportunities for eligible PwDs.
