Union Minister Jitendra Singh met representatives of all India employee organisations of the Department of Posts on Monday in New Delhi. He highlighted the postal department’s extensive nationwide network as a valuable public‑service asset that can be used more extensively for government programmes, citizen outreach and last‑mile delivery.
During the meeting Singh noted that the transformation of India Post is reflected in the changing role of the postman, who is increasingly delivering banking and other essential services directly to citizens. From its origins in letter delivery, the postal network has expanded into a broader platform for financial and citizen services, providing an important last‑mile link between government services and people.
The employee organisations praised the government for “reinventing” India Post and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for turning it into a modern, citizen‑centric service network. They said the changes have brought a wide range of services closer to people across the country, including faster delivery, Aadhaar‑related facilities, PAN and Passport Seva services, doorstep banking, digital pension services and Digital Life Certificates for pensioners.
The delegation also discussed various matters concerning postal employees, employee organisations and pensioners, and expressed willingness to contribute to efforts that further strengthen the delivery of citizen‑centric services through the postal network. Singh said the issues raised would be examined through the appropriate administrative process while the interaction underscored the need to make effective use of the postal network’s reach in support of government initiatives.
