NEW DELHI, Sep 13 – India’s ODI squad is poised for a reshuffle as Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to return for the home series against the West Indies, scheduled to begin on September 27. The selectors face a delicate balancing act, with the Asian Games in Japan overlapping the series and several key players, including Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah, earmarked for the continental competition.
Jaiswal’s recent form strengthens his case for recall; he has scored two centuries in his last three ODI innings, including a recent hundred. With Iyer likely unavailable, the selectors may give Jaiswal a longer run as India builds toward the 2027 World Cup. Ruturaj Gaikwad is another option, but Jaiswal’s current output makes him a difficult omission.
Despite the potential inclusion of Jaiswal, former captain Rohit Sharma is not expected to be dropped. He will return alongside Virat Kohli and captain Shubman Gill, creating a top‑order lineup that must accommodate an experienced opener and a young left‑hander. Rohit’s record and the Board’s backing weigh heavily, yet his approaching 40 years of age and the need for long‑term planning give Jaiswal a compelling argument.
The series also opens the door for Rishabh Pant’s return after a long absence, potentially adding a second left‑handed batting option. Bowling changes are anticipated, with Bumrah and Arshdeep on the Asian Games roster and Mohammed Siraj, Mayank Yadav, Ashok Sharma and others in contention for the ODI side. The selection committee must weigh immediate performance against future prospects as the 2027 World Cup approaches.
