An NIA court in Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir, issued a fresh non‑bailable warrant on September 8 for Hafiz Saeed, the chief of the Pakistan‑based militant group Lashkar‑e‑Tahaffuz (LeT). The warrant accuses Saeed of supplying weapons, funds and directions to terrorists operating in Kashmir. It is the second such warrant against him in two months.

The special judge of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court heard the prosecution’s arguments, examined the application and its annexure, and found that the accused’s involvement had surfaced during the investigation. The judge noted that Saeed is at large and the investigating agency has been unable to secure his attendance by ordinary means, leading to the approval of the motion.

The warrant is a general arrest warrant issued against Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, who is also known by several aliases including Hafiz Muhammad Sahib, Hafiz Mohd Sayid and others. He is a resident of Sargodha, Punjab, Pakistan. The warrant has been forwarded to the Deputy Inspector General of the NIA in Jammu for execution in accordance with legal procedures, and the application has been consigned to record.

Saeed, a 76‑year‑old founder of LeT, is one of India’s most‑wanted global terrorists and faces intensified legal action by the NIA concerning major cross‑border conspiracies and high‑profile attacks in Jammu & Kashmir. While Pakistani authorities claim he is serving more than 30 years in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, Indian intelligence alleges that elements within Pakistan’s establishment continue to shield him. He remains a United Nations‑listed global terrorist, and the United States has placed a $10 million bounty on him.
