The Karnataka government has announced a monthly subsidy of ₹2,500 for every job created in ten underdeveloped districts, as part of an effort to increase employment in the region.
The subsidy will be available for several years, allowing companies to use the funds for employee benefits such as provident fund contributions. Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara said that the scheme is funded with ₹30 crore and that guidelines will be released shortly.
The districts targeted by the scheme are Yadgir, Bidar, Raichur, Koppal, Kalaburagi, Vijayanagara, Gadag, Haveri, and Vijayapura.
To further support workers, the government has launched the ‘Shramika Nivas’ programme, offering financial assistance to industries that provide housing near their sites. The scheme applies to all industries, existing and new, and aims to construct about 10,000 homes. Distance requirements will be clarified in the forthcoming guidelines.
