Delhi Police denied the Cockroach Janta Party’s request to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10, citing potential serious law and order concerns and inconvenience to residents.
In the letter, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi district, warned that granting permission could lead to serious law-and-order issues and stated that the request could not be granted in the larger public interest.
The police also pointed out that the party’s communication was merely an intimation and not a duly submitted application. The guidelines require applications to be submitted at least ten days before the proposed date. Previous instances of violations, such as demonstrations running beyond stipulated time limits, had caused law and order problems.
The protest was aimed at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, who is accused of voter‑list tampering under the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and of bypassing colleagues to alter Form 6. Heavy police deployment has been made across the capital to maintain law and order.
