Majji Srinivasa Rao, the chairperson of the Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad and a former member of the YSR Congress Party, announced on Wednesday that he had joined the Telugu Desam Party. He cited Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision and the ruling party’s developmental initiatives in North Andhra as the key factors that prompted his decision.
Rao tendered his resignation from his YSRCP positions in Vizianagaram district on Tuesday, ahead of the state’s local body elections. He stepped down from both the district president role and the Bhimili in‑charge posts.
Addressing reporters in Vizianagaram, Rao clarified that he had no disagreements with his uncle, senior YSRCP leader Botcha Satyanarayana. He said he joined the TDP unconditionally and hoped his move would help strengthen the party in a district that saw the National Democratic Alliance win all Assembly seats in the 2024 elections.
When asked about his departure from the YSRCP, Botcha Satyanarayana explained that each politician has personal ambitions, which may have led Rao to leave the party. The senior leader added that such differences in ambition are common in politics.
