The Congress party has objected to a notice issued by election authorities to the grandson of former Member of Parliament B.M. Mujahid and KPCC office‑bearer Shahjaman Mujahid during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
In a press release, Vidyanagar Block Congress Committee president Rajat Ullagaddimath said that Mr. Mujahid, who also serves as co‑convener of the KPCC Protocol Committee and Booth Level Agent‑2 at polling station No. 170 in the Hubballi‑Central Assembly constituency, received a notice alleging discrepancies in family mapping. The notice states that Mr. Mujahid’s name does not appear in the family mapping records, while the names of his father Rizwan, mother and younger brother—who all live in the same house—are listed in the draft roll.
The party argues that the incident reflects a broader attempt to remove eligible voters from the rolls and raises concerns that members of marginalised communities and opposition supporters could be disproportionately affected during the revision process.
Congress labelled the alleged exercise as an attempt at “vote theft” and questioned whether ordinary voters could be adequately protected when the electoral rights of an officially designated booth‑level representative are being challenged.
The party urged the Election Commission and election officials to conduct the roll revision transparently and impartially, ensuring that no eligible voter is deprived of the right to vote without due process.
