Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Legislature Party Leader and Vaniyambadi MLA S.S.P. Syed Farooq Basha said that after the recent Assembly elections, key leaders from other parties approached IUML representatives with offers of crores of rupees and cabinet positions.
Addressing party cadres and functionaries at a district‑level general body meeting in Tiruvannamalai, Mr. Basha explained that he and IUML MLA A.M. Shahjahan from Papanasam were presented with substantial financial support and the choice of ministerial posts. He stated that the party chose not to accept the offers, citing its commitment to principles.
The IUML was subsequently invited by the ruling TVK to receive cabinet berths following the Assembly polls. Mr. Basha urged the party to work closely with TVK in the upcoming local‑body elections to strengthen its presence in the state. He added that TVK will likely offer similar key positions to IUML functionaries in rural and urban local bodies once those elections are held, reinforcing the party’s collaborative stance with the ruling coalition.
