A total of 1,305 people have been rescued from low-lying areas in West Tripura district, which have been severely affected by a rain-triggered flash flood. The rescue efforts were undertaken after several localities situated along the banks of Howrah and Kathakhal rivers were inundated due to heavy rainfall on Saturday night.

The worst affected areas include Baldakhal, Srilankabasti, Kathakhal, and a part of Bambutia. According to West Tripura District Magistrate Vishal Kumar, 1,305 members of 413 families have been evacuated and shifted to 17 relief camps so far. The district administration has been working tirelessly to provide assistance to those affected by the flood.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha visited some of the flood-affected areas and relief camps on Sunday night to assess the situation. He assured that the government would take permanent steps to resolve the issue of floods in the region. The Chief Minister also stated that the administration is working to provide all possible help to the affected people.

Disaster teams have been deployed in the field, and boats have been used to evacuate those stranded in the flood-affected areas. The government is also exploring ways to bring about a permanent solution to the problem. Additionally, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have been kept on standby, and the administration has been asked to remain vigilant.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that while embankments have been constructed to prevent flash floods, the administration is unable to resist the fury of nature. The situation is being closely monitored, and efforts are being made to mitigate the impact of the flood.
