A relative of the victims of the Maharashtra hill tragedy has dismissed the theory that a dispute over a mobile phone led to the incident, calling such reports ‘rumours’. Pallavi Patil, sister of Sangita Chandgude, who lost her life in the tragedy, claimed that people are spreading false information about the incident. She appealed to the public to be sensitive to the family’s suffering and not to spread such rumours.

The tragedy occurred on August 21 in the Tisgaon area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where three members of a family died after a domestic dispute ended in a sequence of fatal falls from a hilltop. The deceased have been identified as Murlidhar Chandgude, his wife Sangita, and their 19-year-old son Kunal. According to police, the family was stressed over a dispute, which prima facie prompted Kunal to attempt suicide.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Atulkar said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the family was stressed over some disputes that had been going on for the last two to three months. He explained that on the day of the incident, Kunal stood on the edge of the hill and threatened to commit suicide, prompting police to try to dissuade him through dialogue. The fire brigade was also called to the scene.

Atulkar added that at the last moment, Murlidhar tried to pull Kunal back, but they slipped, and Sangita jumped from the spot. The police are investigating the case to determine the root cause of the incident.

The family’s relative, Pallavi Patil, expressed her grief and frustration over the spread of false information about the incident. She said that such videos are painful for the family, especially the elderly parents, and appealed to the public to think about their sufferings before making any statements about the victims.
