Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has praised the legacy of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Kamaraj, stating that his administration was marked by a complete absence of corruption. Chidambaram made these remarks while addressing a gathering at an educational institution in Madurai on Sunday.
Chidambaram lauded Kamaraj’s vision and leadership, saying that he had laid the foundational framework for the state’s educational and industrial progress. He noted that during the Congress rule under Kamaraj, there was no talk of corruption, and that the former chief minister had proved that corruption can be entirely avoided if the chief minister ensures proper laws and enforcement.
Reflecting on his recent election campaigns across three districts, Chidambaram observed that Kamaraj’s name still resonates deeply with the masses. He said that wherever he went for the election campaign, people unanimously credited Kamaraj with providing education to the poor.
Chidambaram also highlighted Kamaraj’s humble beginnings and simple life. Despite serving as chief minister for nine years and TNCC president for nine years, Kamaraj left behind only meagre personal belongings. Chidambaram described Kamaraj as a leader who put Tamil Nadu on the path of growth across education, industry, employment, and economic development.
He added that no one of Kamaraj’s stature had emerged from Tamil Nadu before him, and no one has since. Chidambaram’s remarks are a testament to Kamaraj’s enduring legacy and his impact on the state’s development.
