The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana has alleged that local leaders from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Congress are intimidating migrant communities during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The BJP submitted a representation to the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), C Sudharshan Reddy, stating that workers from these parties are engaging in coercion and threats against voters from other parts of the country residing in Hyderabad and Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituencies. The party claims that these voters are being misinformed that they are not entitled to continue as electors in Telangana.
Additionally, BJP alleged that certain individuals are forcibly collecting and withholding enumeration forms from voters, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. The party views these actions as a threat to the foundation of democratic governance. The BJP also claimed that Congress leaders, including Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, are stating that people must be enrolled as voters in rural areas to receive benefits from state and central governments.
The party urged the CEO to appoint senior officers from other states as electoral roll observers and conduct an immediate inquiry into the allegations of intimidation and threats in the electoral enumeration process. Furthermore, the BJP requested the CEO to ensure the deployment of Central forces to provide adequate police protection and vigilance in sensitive localities to safeguard voters from coercion and undue influence. The house-to-house enumeration for the SIR of electoral rolls commenced in Telangana on June 25 and will continue until August 3.
