India is rapidly emerging as a credible global security partner, expanding its strategic footprint from the Indian Ocean to the Indo-Pacific, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Speaking at an event on Saturday, Mr. Singh highlighted the country’s major boost in indigenous defence production, which has enabled it to become a reliable security partner for the world.
Mr. Singh also sent a firm message to Pakistan, stating that India’s zero tolerance against terrorism is not just a statement, but a line of action. He noted that India will strike against terrorism not just at the doorstep but by entering the house, citing Operation Sindoor as an example. The Defence Minister emphasized that the whole world saw India’s commitment to combating terrorism during this operation.
India’s success in indigenous defence manufacturing has been a significant factor in its emergence as a global security partner. Defence products made in India are being exported to nearly 100 countries, with the total volume of the country’s defence production reaching a record level of nearly ₹1.78 lakh crore annually. Mr. Singh highlighted that India is not just manufacturing defence equipment for itself, but is becoming a credible security partner for the world.
The Defence Minister expressed confidence that India will hit a ₹3 lakh crore defence production milestone by 2029. He emphasized that the nation is working towards complete self-reliance in the defence industrial sector, which will enable it to strengthen its strategic and military autonomy. Mr. Singh credited the success of Operation Sindoor to the trust in India’s industries and highlighted the Modi government’s efforts to promote self-reliance in the defence sector.
Mr. Singh also noted that India’s defence exports have surged significantly, from ₹686 crore in 2013-14 to over ₹38,000 crore in 2025-26. He attributed this growth to the new foundation laid over the past 12 years, which has enabled India to become a major player in the global defence market.
