Tamil Nadu: Woman Hacked to Death by Daughter's Ex-Fiancé

A tragic incident unfolded in a village near Mallankinaru in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday, when a 45-year-old woman, M Vinayagajothi, was hacked to death while trying to protect her 20-year-old daughter from her former fiancé. The daughter, M Varsha, sustained multiple injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital. According to the police, Varsha had been engaged to her cousin, D Yuvaraj, 36, in April.

However, the engagement was called off due to misunderstandings that developed between the couple. Despite this, Yuvaraj allegedly continued to maintain contact with Varsha over the phone, which her family put an end to. The family’s decision to stop the wedding and Varsha’s refusal to speak to Yuvaraj reportedly led to the violent outburst.

On Wednesday morning, Yuvaraj allegedly arrived at Varsha’s residence, armed with a billhook, and attacked her while she was washing clothes outside. Hearing her daughter’s cries for help, Vinayagajothi rushed to the scene and attempted to stop the assault. However, Yuvaraj turned on her and attacked her with the weapon, resulting in her death on the spot.

Varsha suffered serious injuries in the attack and was rushed to the hospital by neighbors who had alerted the police. The police recovered Vinayagajothi’s body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Yuvaraj later surrendered before the Mallankinaru police station.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Officials are currently examining the circumstances that led to the attack and recording statements from family members and witnesses.
