A migrant worker from Bihar died and nine others were injured in a boiler explosion at a private factory in the SIPCOT Industrial Estate in Gummidipoondi on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as 24-year-old Ravi Ranjan, suffered severe burns and died on the way to the hospital. The injured workers, all from Bihar, were carrying out routine recycling operations at Jain Metals, extracting lead from used batteries.

The Gummidipoondi police reported that three workers sustained grievous injuries, while six others suffered minor burns. The injured workers were admitted to various hospitals, including the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital and the Gummidipoondi Government General Hospital. Company personnel, along with the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services and police teams, rushed the injured workers to the hospitals.

The police have registered a case under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, based on a complaint lodged by the workers.
