The son of former Minister and YSRCP senior leader Seediri Appalaraju has surrendered to the police at the Kasibugga police station in Srikakulam district. This development comes after police presented prima facie evidence linking him to a road accident that resulted in the death of 45-year-old D. Danayya on July 10.
According to reports, Danayya was killed instantly when a two-wheeler, allegedly driven by the former Minister’s son, collided with him on the old National Highway road at Kasibugga. The police had earlier arrested the friend of the Minister’s son, as the bike involved in the accident was registered in his name.
Tensions rose as YSRCP leaders and activists gathered at the police station, urging the police not to file a case against the accused and claiming he was not involved in the accident. However, the accused and his advocates called for calm, asking the activists to maintain peace.
The incident led to locals lodging a complaint with the police, alleging that the YSRCP leader’s son was driving the two-wheeler. In response, Mr. Appalaraju’s family members denied the allegations, stating that the police were attempting to defame the family at the behest of TDP leaders.
As part of their investigation, the Srikakulam Police reviewed CCTV footage from a petrol bunk and other locations along the accident route. While the footage confirmed the leader’s son was at the petrol bunk and National Highway on Friday night around 10 p.m., there is no clear evidence or CCTV footage of the accident itself.
YSRCP State secretary Yenni Dhanunjay has accused the ruling party of trying to defame Mr. Appalaraju and his family members, alleging that this is due to their efforts to highlight the government’s ‘misdeeds’.
