Armyman, Father Killed in Land Dispute in Bihar's Vaishali District

A long-standing land dispute in Bihar’s Vaishali district turned deadly on Sunday, resulting in the murder of an Indian Army soldier and his 52-year-old father. According to police, the incident occurred in Rajaso village under the Bidupur police station.

Jitendra Kumar, 32, a jawan in the army, had returned home following the death of a relative. His father, Munarik Rai, died instantly after being shot, while Kumar succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital. Vaishali Superintendent of Police Shubhank Mishra stated that the accused have been identified and are related to the victims.

The dispute allegedly began over the cutting of bananas on a disputed patch of land. Local residents reported that Kumar, who was posted in Delhi, had returned to the village only a few days ago. During his stay, an old dispute over land and a village pathway resurfaced, leading to an argument with Jagdish Rai on Saturday evening.

Despite police intervention on Saturday, the situation escalated on Sunday morning when Jagdish returned and opened fire at Munarik and Kumar. While Munarik died on the spot, Kumar was taken to the Sadar Hospital with critical injuries, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and are currently in the process of registering the FIR. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest those involved in the incident, with local residents claiming that the accused and members of his family fled their house after the shooting.
