The Congress party has strongly criticized the BJP-RSS over the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, calling it a ‘betrayal of faith’ perpetrated under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s patronage. The party has questioned Modi’s silence on the issue and demanded an independent investigation supervised by the Supreme Court.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh reiterated the party’s demands for a forensic audit, fixation of accountability, and strict action against the guilty. He stated that new facts emerging daily are exposing those who have politicized the Ram Temple issue, and even the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has acknowledged the daily disappearance of lakhs of rupees in offerings.
The Congress has maintained that the SIT, the FIR, and the resignations are merely attempts to hoodwink the nation, and that the government is intent on shielding the real culprits. Ramesh alleged that the Modi government is taking no action against temple trustees Champat Rai and others, and their influence remains intact.
The party has demanded answers from Modi on the issue and will raise it in the upcoming Parliament session. Congress leaders addressed press conferences across the country, claiming the SIT report is ‘just a tip of the iceberg’ and that the ‘big fish’ are ‘roaming freely’ with the protection and blessings of Modi.
The BJP has maintained that those found guilty will not be spared, and alleged that opposition parties are using the issue to divide Hindus. The alleged embezzlement came to light on June 7, and an FIR was registered on June 25 following a preliminary report by the SIT. Eight people associated with the temple’s donation and counting process have been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Congress has consistently criticized the BJP-RSS over the issue, and the matter is likely to be raised in the upcoming Parliament session. The party has demanded transparency and accountability in the investigation, and has questioned the government’s intentions in handling the case.
