Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik has assured that the state government will conduct a thorough inquiry into the recent crisis at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST). The governor stated that those found responsible for the unrest will be dealt with according to the law. This assurance was given during a meeting with NERIST Director Prof Narendranath S at the Lok Bhavan in Itanagar on Tuesday. The governor expressed deep concern over the developments and emphasized the need to preserve the academic environment of the NERIST.
The NERIST director briefed the governor on the recent incidents and the steps being taken to restore normalcy and ensure the well-being of students and faculty members. The governor highlighted the importance of accountability, discipline, and respect for institutional values in maintaining harmony and ensuring a conducive environment for teaching and learning. He expressed confidence that the NERIST administration, faculty members, students, and stakeholders would work collectively to restore normalcy and uphold the institute’s tradition of academic excellence and inclusivity. In a separate meeting with Arunachal Pradesh Administrative Reforms Commission Chairman Pramod Jain, the governor shared his concerns and vision for a more responsive and citizen-centric administration. The governor stressed the need for reforms in personnel management, capacity building, and institutional functioning.
He emphasized the importance of promoting greater accountability, ensuring transparency in government functioning, and improving administrative efficiency through meaningful civil service reforms. The governor also highlighted the need for proper urban development planning and management, adoption of a merit-based performance evaluation system, and modernization of the civil services. He reiterated his commitment to good governance and expressed confidence that the commission’s recommendations would contribute towards building a more accountable, efficient, and citizen-focused administrative framework in Arunachal Pradesh.
