Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has called for a shared Manipuri identity and lasting peace in the state, emphasizing that all communities must live together in harmony. During a visit to Senapati and Kangpokpi districts, the Chief Minister interacted with both Naga and Kuki communities, promoting trust and understanding among them.
The Chief Minister’s visit was marked by a protest by Nagas at Taphou village, where they expressed their discontent with the state government’s handling of the recent killing of six Naga civilians by a Kuki armed group. Despite this, Khemchand Singh remained committed to his mission of promoting peace and development in the region.
In Senapati district, the Chief Minister reviewed ongoing developmental projects and interacted with the public and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). He also assessed the implementation of various government projects and initiatives, ensuring that the needs of the local community are being addressed.
During his visit to a potato farm in Mao, the Chief Minister was informed about the challenges faced by the farm due to inadequate funding. He assured the farmers that the government would address their grievances and work towards promoting horticulture in the region.
The Chief Minister also announced the formal approval for the construction of the Rikhruri Multipurpose Dam, which will provide drinking water to 27 nearby villages. He also met with representatives of the United Naga Council (UNC) and urged them to lift the ongoing economic blockade along the National Highway.
In Kangpokpi district, the Chief Minister interacted with 14 Kuki youths who were recently released after being held captive. He emphasized the importance of forgiveness and moving forward towards peace, stating that all communities must work together to achieve lasting peace in the state.
The Chief Minister’s visit was seen as a significant step towards promoting peace and development in the region. His commitment to addressing the grievances of all communities and promoting a shared Manipuri identity has been welcomed by the people of Senapati and Kangpokpi districts.
