Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla visited Dzükou Valley on Tuesday, accompanied by an official delegation. The Governor was accorded a traditional welcome at Viswema village before proceeding to the famed high valley. He was received by Kohima Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem, Superintendent of Police Krodi Rhetso, officials of the district administration, office-bearers of the Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO), and members of the Viswema Village Council.

The Governor later proceeded to Dzükou Valley, accompanied by the Extra Assistant Commissioner (Kezocha), the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (South), a medical officer, police personnel, and tourist guides. The district administration and security agencies made elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the visit. Welcoming the Governor, SAPO president Er. Tepul Hopovi described the visit as a symbolic convergence of stewardship and landscape, and of governance and guardianship.

Highlighting the ecological significance of Dzükou Valley, Hopovi said the Southern Angami people have served as its traditional custodians since time immemorial. He described the valley as a treasured natural heritage of Nagaland that belongs to all nature lovers and stressed the need for collective efforts to protect, preserve, and promote its rich biodiversity. The valley should serve as a model for climate-resilient, community-led conservation, where indigenous knowledge and government initiatives work together to safeguard the environment for future generations.

Hopovi also invited the Governor to experience the valley’s pristine landscape, clean environment, and the famed Dzükou Lily, which symbolises the region’s unique ecological wealth. As a mark of respect, SAPO presented the Governor with a traditional memento. The organisation also expressed gratitude to the Nagaland government, particularly the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and other officials, for coordinating and facilitating the successful visit.
