On Thursday, the Mushroom Development Centre in Pasighat concluded a series of training programmes in East Siang district, part of the Arunachal Pradesh Mushroom Development Mission for the 2025–26 biennial cycle.
Five programmes were held across circles and subdivisions, reaching 200 trainees. The curriculum focused on oyster mushroom cultivation, emphasizing low cost, ease of production, strong market demand, and sustainability as an income source.
Participants engaged in hands‑on practical sessions and demonstration‑based learning. Each trainee received a mushroom grow kit to start cultivation at home immediately.
Technical sessions were led by Dr. N Surmina Devi, Associate Professor of Plant Pathology at the Pasighat College of Agriculture. Attendees included District Horticulture Officer Oyin Tayeng, Horticulture Development Officer Oyi Modi, Horticulture Marketing Officer Bini Tagom, MDC HDO Nuka Dai, and local ZPMs and GPCs from Bogong‑I to Bilat‑I.
The initiative, part of the Arunachal Pradesh Mushroom Development Mission, aims to boost rural livelihoods by providing farmers with knowledge and tools for mushroom farming. By focusing on oyster mushrooms, the mission leverages a crop with high market demand and low input costs, potentially increasing household incomes in the district.
