Donald Trump returned to Washington on Wednesday to urge the Nobel Prize committee to award him the Peace Prize, citing what he claims are eight wars he has settled. He said, “I’ve done stuff that nobody else has ever done. I’m not bragging, I’m just telling you the facts. No president has probably ever settled any wars. I settled eight wars.”
Trump compared his record to that of former President Barack Obama, who received the 2009 Peace Prize for diplomatic efforts to re‑establish ties with the Muslim world. Trump said, “Look, Obama got it, and he didn’t do anything—he still doesn’t know what he got it for. He got it when he was elected, right at the beginning.” He added that he had done “far more.”
The figure of eight wars is disputed. Several items on Trump’s list are not wars, such as the dispute between Serbia and Kosovo, which never escalated to armed conflict, and the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, which remains active. The Iran war, which Trump claims he launched, has not been resolved and continues to affect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
During his campaign rally in San Antonio, Trump reiterated that the Iran conflict was “won” in terms of removing nuclear weapons, while noting that the war was not yet over. He also referenced Gaza and Ukraine, saying he pledged to end those conflicts, but critics point out that little progress has been made on either front.
