In the third week of a 12‑week trial in Sydney, former police officer Beau Lamarre‑Condon, 31, remains in court after pleading not guilty to the February 2024 murders of Jesse Baird, 26, and Luke Davies, 29, who were the ex‑partner and new partner of a television presenter. The case, which has attracted media attention, centers on the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two men.
Crime scene officer Greg Moon testified about the condition of the bodies, which were found inside surfboard bags at a Greek monastery in Bungonia, 200 km south of Sydney. Moon showed the jury close‑up photographs of a gunshot wound on Baird’s right temple, describing stippling as a marker of close‑range fire. He walked the jury box to point out pin‑prick marks that, according to him, could indicate the distance of the firearm.
Investigators said the bodies had been left at the monastery for several days before being discovered. Moon noted the presence of maggots, insects and decompositional fluids in the bags, while fellow investigator Christine Abela recounted a strong odor upon arrival at the rural property. Evidence presented includes concrete blocks, a gym weight and a cut padlock found at Cella Farm, where Lamarre‑Condon allegedly tried to sink the bodies in a dam.
The crown alleges Lamarre‑Condon killed the men “execution‑style” at close range, while his barrister argues the deaths were self‑defence in separate altercations. Justice Natalie Adams warned jurors that the photographs would be confronting. CCTV footage of the accused buying a second surfboard bag and loading cleaning products was also shown. The trial continues.
