In Imphal on Thursday, Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh inaugurated two new initiatives aimed at improving the state’s waste‑management infrastructure and raising public awareness.
The first, Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, will run from September 17 to October 2, while the second, the Clean Himalayan Hill Cities Initiative, is a 100‑day programme launched at the CM Secretariat.
In a post on X, Singh said the campaigns would adopt a ‘Whole of Society’ approach, promoting behavioural change, scientific waste management and community ownership to address solid‑waste and sanitation challenges in fragile mountain regions.
Both initiatives will strengthen waste‑management infrastructure at identified sites, conduct awareness and behaviour‑change activities, and provide training and institutional support to urban local bodies and other stakeholders.
Swachhata Hi Seva will focus on four‑way source segregation, awareness of solid‑waste management rules, and waste‑to‑wealth initiatives, officials said.
The Clean Himalayan Hill Cities Initiative will concentrate on capacity building, behaviour‑change communication, preservation of heritage and iconic sites, and the reinforcement of waste‑management practices.
