JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha announced that his party’s leaders will soon meet Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The statement was made on Monday in New Delhi.
A day earlier, Shah had asserted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) governments in 21 states would introduce a UCC before 2029. In a press conference in Mumbai, he highlighted the government’s initiatives for women, noting the abolition of triple talaq and the introduction of the UCC in several states.
When asked about Shah’s assertion, Jha confirmed that the JD(U) would meet the Home Minister to address the issue. He said, “We will soon meet Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the issue.”
The press conference also served to launch a month‑long campaign from September 17 to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday and 25 years of public service, beginning with his tenure as Gujarat chief minister.
The JD(U), which holds 12 Lok Sabha seats, is a key constituent of the BJP‑led NDA and shares power with the BJP in Bihar under Nitish Kumar’s leadership.
