Mayawati, the Bahujan Samaj Party’s president, accused her nephew Akash Anand of spreading false rumours about her health during a press conference in Lucknow. She said that the expelled party leader had called her personal secretary, Alok Kumar, to inquire whether she was unwell.
According to Mayawati, the office‑in‑charge told Anand that she was fine and busy with party work. Anand allegedly hung up after requesting that she not be informed of the conversation. She described the allegations as a rumor spreading within the party and stated that those expelled from the party were responsible for the misinformation.
The accusations followed Mayawati’s decision to remove Anand from the party on September 3, when he was expelled as national coordinator. The move came after his father‑in‑law, former Rajya Sabha member Ashok Siddharth, announced his retirement from politics.
Mayawati urged BSP workers to mobilise for the upcoming elections, stressing the need to promote the progressive ideas of Kanshi Ram and communicate the party’s past achievements to the masses. She warned that Anand still follows his father‑in‑law’s direction and does not act independently.
Anand, the son of Mayawati’s brother Anand Kumar, had once been seen as a chosen successor and was entrusted with key party responsibilities. He has been removed multiple times since 2024 and, as of now, is allowed to remain only as an ordinary party worker, not in any leadership position.
