On Sunday, September 13, 2026, Babulal Marandi, Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, accused the state government of covering up and shielding influential figures amid a Crime Investigation Department (CID) probe into alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment exams.
Marandi said that complaints have surfaced indicating that when detainees or witnesses disclose bribery and the involvement of high‑profile politicians, those portions are omitted from recorded statements. He alleged that junior officials report that senior officers are pressuring them not to include such details in the official record.
He called for the entire statement‑recording process to be videographed and for the original recordings to be preserved without tampering, trimming or editing, arguing that absence of video evidence allows officials to alter statements for convenience.
Marandi also raised concerns about former Jharkhand Director General of Police Anurag Gupta, alleging that he steered the investigation in the wrong direction, destroyed evidence and denied the existence of the recruitment scam. He added that the CID team led by Senior IPS officer Manoj Kaushik has been accused of making low‑level “small fish” scapegoats to protect “big fish.”
The opposition leader urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to refrain from forcing students and the unemployed to protest, demanded an immediate CBI inquiry, and insisted on safeguarding all original statements, video recordings and digital evidence.
