Indonesian police are investigating the deaths of a 57‑year‑old Australian man and his two children, aged seven and four, who were found dead in a bungalow in Kuta, Bali, on Sunday morning. Initial reports suggest the father may have killed his children before taking his own life, a case the police are treating as a suspected murder‑suicide.
The discovery followed a call on Sunday at 8.30 am from the victim’s wife, who was in Jakarta and could not reach her husband. 51‑year‑old witness Nur Khamid was instructed to check on the family. He approached the bungalow, saw no activity, and after speaking with the owner and the neighbourhood head, residents knocked and forced the door open, revealing the three bodies.
Denpasar police stated that officers on the scene conducted a crime‑scene investigation and preliminary examination with the Denpasar Police Identification Team. They suspect the children died as a result of acts of violence, while the father is suspected to have died by hanging. The bodies are now at Prof Dr IGNG Ngoerah Central general hospital for further examination.
Senior Commissioner Leonardo D Simatupang said investigators are processing the scene, reviewing CCTV footage, and questioning witnesses, including the victim’s wife. The Australian consulate has been contacted, and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family, offering condolences while respecting privacy obligations.
