A businessman named Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores has been elected mayor of the remote district of Queropalca in Peru’s central Huánuco region. The 45‑year‑old, who shares two of his names with infamous European dictators, will assume office on 1 January.
Flores ran as a candidate for the left‑wing Ahora Naciòn party and secured 229 of the 663 votes cast in the election held on 4 October, according to the national office of electoral processes. His nearest competitor, far‑right candidate Gaspar Osorio, received 204 votes.
Prior to his mayoral campaign, Flores worked in freight transportation and had been a member of Popular Force, the party of Peru’s right‑wing president Keiko Fujimori, until 2025, as noted by electoral authorities.
The use of the name “Hitler” has not prevented other Peruvian politicians from winning elections. In 2021, doctor Hitler Saavedra Casternoque was elected to parliament for the centrist Somos Peru party, and in 2018, Hitler Alba Sánchez was elected mayor of the Andean district of Yungar, during which he described himself as “the good Hitler.”
