On Monday morning, a gym trainer was shot dead in the Aya Nagar area of south Delhi. Police say the killing appears to stem from a personal feud, and they are investigating whether it is linked to a long‑standing rivalry among local families.
Vijay Kumar was inside a gym when men reportedly called him outside. Two bike‑borne assailants then opened fire near Hansa Chowk, firing about fifteen rounds at around 10 a.m. The trainer sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including two to the head, and later died. An FIR has been registered and several police teams have been tasked with tracing and apprehending the suspects, who fled the scene.
According to Vijay’s uncle, Devendra, the attackers knew he was inside the gym and lured him outside to avoid the CCTV cameras. Devendra described the trainer as married, with a wife and two children, and noted that his parents had died and he has a sister. He said the incident may be rooted in an old dispute between different groups in Aya Nagar, where several people have been killed in the past.
The shooting comes amid heightened police scrutiny of violent incidents in Aya Nagar, including the earlier murder of 55‑year‑old dairy businessman Ratan Lohia. Lohia was shot dead near his house after a careful reconnaissance, with more than sixty rounds fired. Police have considered a contract killing and have investigated allegations that the murder was connected to a previous killing in the area. They have also suspected the involvement of gangster Neeraj Faridpuriya and possible shooters based in Haryana.
Police have not officially linked Lohia’s murder to Vijay Kumar’s shooting. Senior officers rushed to the scene after the incident, and security personnel were deployed to prevent further escalation. Multiple raids are underway at various locations to identify and apprehend the accused, and the investigation is ongoing.
