China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged India and China to advance their bilateral ties without stagnation or backsliding after the leaders met on Saturday, September 12, 2026, during the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. Wang said the two countries had reached a most important consensus that they should be partners, and he hoped the meeting would translate that agreement into concrete action.
Accompanying President Xi Jinping on his visit, Wang reported that the leaders engaged in a candid, in‑depth exchange on strategic, long‑term issues. He highlighted Xi’s remark that, under the guidance of both sides’ leaders, China‑India relations had moved from a low point to a renewed height. Wang praised the hard‑earned normalization of ties, calling the progress worth cherishing.
Following the third meeting between the leaders in three years, Wang noted that India should join China in turning the shared consensus into practice. He also referenced the earlier meeting in Kazan in October 2024, after a four‑year freeze in exchanges, which helped gradually restore normal relations.
Wang reiterated China’s view that the border issue should be addressed within the broader context of the bilateral relationship. He called for continued dialogue and cooperation, urging both nations to accelerate their development and national renewal.
