The Indian National Congress announced on Friday that Mohammed Abdullahil Kafi and Milan Pradhan will contest the by‑elections to the Rejinagar and Nandigram assembly seats in West Bengal. The nominations were approved by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, according to a party statement.
Kafi will run from Rejinagar in Murshidabad district, while Pradhan is the party’s candidate for Nandigram in Purba Medinipur district. Voting is scheduled for October 6, with results to be declared on October 9.
The Nandigram by‑poll was triggered when Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari vacated the seat after retaining Bhabanipur, where he defeated TMC leader Mamata Banerjee in the state elections earlier this year. The Rejinagar seat became vacant after Aam Janata Unnayan Party founder Humayun Kabir stepped down, following his victory in Nowda.
