A 70‑year‑old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted while returning from her agricultural field in a remote village of Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley district on September 9, police said.
According to authorities, the accused choked and overpowered the victim before forcing her to the ground. He fled the scene when he saw people approaching, the police added.
The incident prompted the Dambuk police station to register a case under various provisions of the BNS, including those related to rape and attempt to murder. The accused, identified as Kangge Pertin, was subsequently arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to 14 days’ judicial custody.
The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society condemned the assault and demanded strict action against the accused.
