Union Minister J P Nadda and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will jointly inaugurate 10 critical care blocks and 12 integrated public health laboratories across the state on Saturday.
The state government said the 22 facilities, completed at a combined cost of Rs 249 crore, will be opened in a programme at BR Ambedkar Kalavedika in Vijayawada.
The 10 critical care blocks will add 500 beds and provide specialised services in cardiology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, along with operation theatres and ultrasound facilities. The new blocks are expected to bring emergency and advanced care closer to patients, especially those from poor and middle‑income families, reducing the need to travel to distant centres for specialised treatment.
Of the 26 integrated public health laboratories sanctioned by the Centre, 14 are already functioning; the remaining 12 will be inaugurated on Saturday. The laboratories will offer district‑level diagnostic services, including microbiology and haematology tests, to facilitate early detection of various diseases.
Naidu is scheduled to leave his Undavalli residence at 10.45 a.m., arrive at the Old Government General Hospital in Vijayawada at 11 a.m., and attend the inauguration of a critical care block and a laboratory between 11 a.m. and 11.25 a.m. He will then proceed to BR Ambedkar Kalavedika at 11.30 a.m., where he will join the union health minister for the inauguration of facilities in various districts. The programme is scheduled to continue until 1.25 p.m., after which the CM will return to his residence at 1.40 p.m.
