The hearing in the Jauhar University case before the divisional commissioner’s court in Moradabad has been postponed to September 25, the court announced on Thursday.

The dispute began when the Rampur Development Authority issued a notice on July 15 declaring 38 of the 40 buildings on the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University campus illegal and ordering their demolition. The Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust filed an appeal against the notice on July 20, and the court has been hearing the matter since.

The court’s schedule has been disrupted by a lawyers’ strike and a transfer of the divisional commissioner. The appeal was first heard on July 27, with a stay granted until admission. Subsequent hearings were set for August 3, 10, 13, and 25, but the court was unable to convene on those dates. During the proceedings, the trust requested the master plan, zonal development plan, building bye‑laws, and other regulations from the RDA, which were not produced. The trust noted that building maps are available with the Public Works Department and the Rampur district magistrate’s office.

Counsel Junaid Ejaz said the trust has complied with all procedural requirements and maintains faith in the Constitution. The university is managed by the trust, headed by Nikhat Aflak, sister of former minister Azam Khan, with his son Mohammad Adeeb Azam as secretary and his wife Tazeen Fatma among the trustees.
