Jammu, September 9 – Ramesh Kumar, the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, convened a meeting of senior revenue and forest officials to review progress on the demarcation of forest lands and set a two‑month deadline for completion.
During the session, Kumar highlighted that the installation of boundary pillars on forest lands is the government’s top priority. He ordered that all pillars be installed by the end of the year, emphasizing the need for close coordination between revenue and forest departments, time‑bound action and regular monitoring to meet the two‑month target.
Chief Conservator of Forests Senthil Kumar briefed the group on the current status, noting that of the 1,555 forest areas in the division, about 215 are classified as difficult forests requiring joint surveys. He reported that roughly 24,000 boundary pillars are still required, while nearly 25,000 have already been installed in the past three months.
Kumar also instructed officers to finalize a district‑wise schedule within a week, detailing areas to be covered, field teams, responsible officers, range officers and dates. He directed the rapid processing of cases involving alternate land and transfer proposals, urged the use of the PARIVESH portal for timely uploads, and called for local coordination to resolve minor issues.
