A Texas man has been charged with murder after police discovered the remains of his 73‑year‑old mother stuffed in a duffel bag. Arman Alexander Malik, 34, was arrested on Monday by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office following the grim find.
Deputies were called to a home in Harris County at about 10 p.m. on September 1 after the mother’s daughter reported she could not reach her. When officers arrived, they smelled a strong odor of decomposition and uncovered the body wrapped in a bedsheet and rug, both soaked in blood, inside a duffel bag.
The scene also included a pool of blood on the carpet beneath the bag and blood splattered on a dresser. Investigators noted dried blood under Malik’s fingernails and scratches around his hands. Malik appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Detectives said Malik concealed the body to prevent its discovery, initially charging him with tampering with physical evidence and concealing a human corpse. He was booked into the Harris County Jail and later faced an additional murder charge. Neighbors expressed disbelief, with one remarking, “I cannot believe that happened right next door to me.” Malik’s defense team cited psychological issues and a need for medical treatment.
