A five‑storey paying‑guest building in Satya Niketan, southwest Delhi, collapsed on Sunday, killing seven people, including 19‑year‑old Akshat Yadav from Katni district, Madhya Pradesh. The structure was undergoing renovation when the collapse occurred at about 1:30 p.m.

Yadav had moved to Delhi to study a BCom at Delhi University and had passed the Common University Entrance Test last year. Friends said he was preparing for the IAS exam and was highly regarded academically.

The second victim was 21‑year‑old Arpit Jaj of Dewas, also a BCom student in Delhi. Jaj had recently returned from a Rakshabandhan celebration in his hometown and was in the capital when the building failed.

Both families, after learning of the collapse, travelled to Delhi to identify the bodies. Yadav’s relatives arrived with his mother and sister, and Jaj’s parents and relatives were assisted by local councillors to reach the capital.

The Madhya Pradesh district administration coordinated with Delhi authorities to transport the deceased to their hometowns by ambulance. The families continue to mourn the loss of the young students.
