SBI funds healthcare, green mobility initiatives under CSR in Tirupati

State Bank of India (SBI) inaugurated two corporate social responsibility projects in Tirupati on Tuesday. Chairman C. Sreenivasulu Setty presented a cash contribution of ₹57.23 lakh to establish a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Sri Padmavati Medical College for Women (SPMCW), which operates under the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) University administered by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. The donation, aimed at providing timely, life‑saving critical care for underprivileged children, was formally received by SVIMS Director and Vice‑Chancellor Dr. G. Jagadish.

In a separate CSR initiative, SBI donated two eight‑seater electric passenger buggies valued at ₹15 lakh to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Tirupati. The electric vehicles are intended to offer free, eco‑friendly mobility across the campus for the institute’s 1,850 students and staff, supporting the university’s sustainability goals.

The bank’s CSR activities also extended to women’s empowerment. Surya Sreedevi, the chairman’s wife, handed over 221 sewing machines worth ₹15.03 lakh to the social organisation Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS). The machines will be used to train self‑help group (SHG) women beneficiaries, enabling them to convert vocational skills into self‑employment and stable household income, according to RASS general secretary S. Venkataratnam.
