CNN experienced a sudden outage that took the network off the air for approximately 30 minutes on Monday. The interruption occurred during an episode of Inside Politics, which was airing at around 12 p.m. ET. Viewers witnessed a glitch on their screens, with the broadcast being obscured by multi-colored pixels.
According to CNN’s Chief Media Analyst Brian Stelter, the outage happened while anchor Dana Bash was conducting a panel on President Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada. The issue was reported by over 900 people on the Downdetector site by 12:14 p.m. ET. The majority of the reports, 79 percent, indicated that the problem was with CNN’s live channel.
Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company, acknowledged the technical issue in a statement on X at 12:48 p.m. ET. The company apologized for the interruption and assured that they were working to resolve the issue quickly. Warner Bros. operates several other channels, including HBO, TCL, and TNT.
As the outage continued, some viewers speculated that CNN had been hacked. However, when the show returned to air at around 12:50 p.m. ET, anchor Dana Bash clarified that the issue was due to a technical problem across Warner Bros. Discovery’s channels. She apologized for the interruption and welcomed viewers back to the broadcast.
The number of reported issues with CNN on Downdetector dropped significantly to 63 just before 1 p.m. ET. The Independent has reached out to CNN and Warner Bros. for further comment on the outage.
