Scott Jennings, a political commentator, has revealed that Senator Mitch McConnell is preparing to return to work despite his ongoing health issues. McConnell, the senior U.S. senator for Kentucky, was hospitalized on June 14, sparking widespread speculation about his condition.
According to Jennings, he has spoken to senior members of McConnell’s staff, who indicate that the 84-year-old politician is making progress and preparing to resume his duties. Jennings stated on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper that McConnell was meeting with his staff and receiving briefings on various issues, suggesting that he is on the path to recovery.
Jennings also dismissed speculation about McConnell’s health, including rumors that he is dead, in a vegetative state, or experiencing organ failure. Instead, Jennings claimed that McConnell will finish his term and is committed to continuing his work in the Senate.
McConnell’s health has been the subject of concern in recent months, with the senator being hospitalized in February for flu-like symptoms and suffering a concussion and broken rib in 2023. Despite these challenges, McConnell’s office has maintained that he is recovering and working closely with his staff on Senate matters.
A spokesperson for McConnell’s office stated that the senator appreciates the outpouring of support he has received and is continuing to improve. The spokesperson also noted that McConnell is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.
McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, was on a trip to China at the time of his hospitalization, but a spokesperson for Chao stated that her husband’s condition did not warrant an immediate return to the US.
