A body recovered from San Francisco Bay has been identified as Tondra Madruga, a 58-year-old woman who was one of three people missing after a boat sank in the bay earlier this week. Madruga, also known as Tondra Miller, was identified by the San Francisco medical examiner on Friday. Her body was found on Thursday by a police marine unit, two days after the 49-foot cabin cruiser Volare capsized with 20 people aboard.
The incident occurred while the group was on the boat to scatter the ashes of a family member who died in 2016. Ralph Boisa, whose extended family and close friends were on the boat, described the chaotic scene as the vessel tipped over. According to Ralph Boisa, his brother Clifford Boisa died immediately after being pulled from the chilly water, and his sister Carol and Clifford’s wife Jackie remain missing.
The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for the missing individuals late Wednesday after covering more than 814 square miles. Police continue searching for the remaining missing individuals.
The Volare is believed to be submerged 120 feet deep on the rocky seabed. Authorities will determine if a safe recovery can be conducted once the wreck is located. The family of the victims expressed their heartbreak and appreciation for the kindness and understanding shown to them during this difficult time.
