A faction of the Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, has filed four police complaints against a rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee. The complaints were lodged at four police stations in and around Kolkata, with two under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Police and two under the Bidhannagar City Police. The police stations where the complaints were filed include Kalighat Police Station, Pragati Maidan Police Station, New Town Police Station, and Bidhannagar Cyber Police Station. The complaints allege unauthorized use of the party’s logo in mass programmes organized by the rebel faction and illegal announcement of Arup Roy as the Trinamool Congress chairperson, replacing Mamata Banerjee. According to an insider from the party’s minority faction, the complaints are based on the same issue.
The leader pointed out that in 2022, an organizational conference of Trinamool Congress was held, where delegates voted in favor of keeping Mamata Banerjee as the party’s chairperson for life. Only those who have been members of the party for at least five years had the right to vote as delegates in that conference. The rebel camp has argued that since they have already approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the matter of right on the party logo and funds, the matter will be decided at the Commission-level only now. The complaints are the latest development in the ongoing feud between the two factions of the Trinamool Congress.
