A 23-year-old man from Punjab has been arrested in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistan-based ISI operatives. The accused, identified as Sevak Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran district in Punjab, was arrested during a tenant verification drive carried out by police in Akaltara town. According to Janjgir-Champa Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Pandey, Singh was staying in a rented accommodation near Minimata Chowk when he came under suspicion during verification of tenants residing in the area.

The reason behind his presence in the Chhattisgarh town is not immediately clear. A case has been registered against him at Akaltara police station. Examination of Singh’s mobile phone revealed WhatsApp chats, video call records, call recordings, and other digital material indicating communication with individuals suspected to have links with Pakistan-based ISI networks.

Investigators suspect that the accused may have shared information related to sensitive locations, prominent persons, vehicles, and other details with foreign contacts. The authenticity and extent of such information are being verified. Singh’s mobile phone has been sent for forensic examination, while analysis of digital evidence and contact networks is underway.

The accused was in touch with persons linked to a Pakistan-backed ISI network, with discussions relating to the supply of weapons through cross-border channels surfacing during the investigation. However, officials said these aspects would be verified during the course of the probe. An investigation is underway to identify Singh’s contacts, possible associates, and the extent of the alleged network.

The accused was produced before a court after his arrest.
