Maharashtra Cyber Police has registered a case against multiple social media handles for allegedly circulating offensive and defamatory content targeting state minister Girish Mahajan. The First Information Report was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, including criminal intimidation, forgery, defamation, identity theft, and publishing obscene material. According to police sources, the objectionable content was created and circulated across various social media platforms with the intent to tarnish the minister’s image.
The circulated content appears to spread a misleading and provocative narrative capable of disturbing public order and creating unrest among members of the public. As a result, the Maharashtra Cyber and Jalgaon Police Cyber wing have sent notices to social media platform X, requesting immediate blocking and removal of the objectionable accounts, which include @PriaINC and @gajabhau. The Jalgaon District Police has also independently written to X, seeking immediate action against the handle @gajabhaux.
