Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda has described the recent firing at Congress MLA Balram Dangi’s Rohtak office as clear evidence of Haryana’s crumbling law and order. According to Hooda, the incident highlights the resurgence of organised crime in the state, with 50-60 gangs now active across Haryana. The situation in Haryana has been declared the most unsafe state in the country, as per the Centre’s Social Progress Index.

Hooda cited this, saying that from traders and businessmen to employees, officials, and politicians, everyone feels unsafe today. The firing incident occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2026, when two masked men on a motorcycle fired at least four rounds at Mr. Dangi’s office in Meham, Rohtak, shattering glass doors and windows. No injuries were reported.

The Rohtak police have since arrested one of the accused, Aman of Lakhanmajra, after a brief encounter. A country-made pistol and the motorcycle used in the attack were recovered. According to police, Aman committed the crime at the behest of a criminal who has about 30 cases registered against him and who moved to Thailand in July 2025.

Hooda visited the site of the firing on Sunday, June 21, 2026, and spoke to reporters, stating that gangsters are operating from jails in Gujarat and from abroad. He demanded immediate special security for Mr. Dangi and his family, describing them as a symbol of struggle in the region, and sought strict punishment for the perpetrators. Hooda also drew parallels with the past, saying that a similar atmosphere prevailed before the Congress government came to power in 2005, when criminals ran gangs from prisons.

He claimed that during the Congress government’s tenure, all gangs and organised crime were eradicated, and not a single gang was active. However, the current situation is vastly different, with incidents of firing, extortion, robbery, dacoity, murder, and rape becoming routine. Hooda said that organised crime has escalated to the point where 50 to 60 gangs are active, and they not only carry out crimes but also openly claim responsibility.

This shows they have no fear of the law.
